Rejoice, O barren woman, she who did not bear; lift up a song and shout for joy, she who never travailed: for the children of the desolate are more than those of the married woman, saith the LORD.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let the curtains of thy tabernacles be stretched out; be not slack; lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.
3 For you shall spread out on the right hand and on the left hand; and your seed shall inherit nations, and inhabit the desolate cities.
4 Fear not, for thou shalt not be confounded; and be not ashamed, for thou shalt not be reproached, but shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and the reproach of thy widowhood shalt thou remember no more.
5 For thy Maker is thy Husband; Jehovah of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; God of the whole earth shall he be called.

9 For this shall be to me as in the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah should no more pass over the earth; so have I sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
10 For the mountains shall be moved, and the hills shall tremble, but my lovingkindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be broken, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
11 O thou wretched woman, weary with tempest, and comfortless; behold, I will build thy stones upon carbuncles, and upon sapphires will I lay thee.
12 I will set your windows of precious stones, and your gates of carbuncles, and all your walls of precious stones.

17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and you shall condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the inheritance of the servants of the LORD, and their salvation shall come from me, saith the LORD.
Explanation and meaning on Isaiah 54
The verses of Isaiah chapter 54 prophesy the restoration of Jerusalem under the reign of Darius. His words are intended to spread hope among the population, reminding them that God has never abandoned them.
At the beginning of the chapter, Jerusalem is compared to a barren woman. This takes on meaning if we think of the people of Israel in exile suffering at that time, when they were most helpless.
