Declaration of trust

To the principal musician. Psalm of David

1 In you, Jehovah, I have trusted;

let me never be confused.

Deliver me in your righteousness!

2 Incline your ear to me,

deliver me soon.

Be thou my strong rock

and the strength to save me!

3 You are my rock and my castle;

by your name will you guide me and direct me.

4 Pull me out of the net that has been set for me,

for you are my refuge!

5 Into your hand I commend my spirit;

You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth.

6 I abhor those who hope in vain idols;

But I have hoped in the Lord.

7 I will rejoice and be glad in your mercy,

because you have seen my affliction,

you have known the anguish of my soul.

8 You did not deliver me into the hands of the enemy;

You put my feet in a spacious place.

9 Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in distress;

my eyes have been consumed with sadness,

also my soul and my body.

10 My life is wasting away with pain

and my years of sighing;

my strength is exhausted because of my wickedness.

and my bones are consumed!

11 I am the reproach of all my enemies,

and from my neighbors even more;

I am the horror of my acquaintances.

Those who see me outside run away from me!

12 I have been forgotten from his heart like a dead man;

I have become like a broken glass.

13 I hear the slander of many;

fear assaults me from all sides,

while they conspire together against me

and they plan to take my life.

14 But I trust in you, O LORD;

I say: “You are my God.

15 In your hand are my times!”

Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and my persecutors.

16 Make your face shine upon your servant;

save me by your mercy!

17 Let me not be ashamed, Jehovah,

since I have invoked you;

let the wicked be ashamed,

be mute in Sheol!

18 Mute the lying lips,

who speak harsh things against the righteous

with pride and contempt.

19 How great is your goodness,

that you have kept for those who fear you,

that you have shown to those who hope in you,

before the sons of men!

20 In the secret of your presence you will hide them.

of man’s conspiracy;

You will place them in your Tabernacle under cover.

of contentious languages.

21 Blessed be Jehovah,

because he has shown me marvelous mercy.

in a fortified city.

22 I said in my haste:

“Excluded am I from before thine eyes.”

but you heard the voice of my pleas

when I cried out to you.

23 Love the LORD, all you saints of his;

to the faithful keepers of Jehovah

and rewards with great recompense the one who proceeds with pride.

24 Be strong, all you who hope in the LORD,

and let your heart take breath.

Psalm 31 with meaning and message

Now that you know all you need to know about Psalm 31, let’s start with the Bible commentary. Bible commentary!

To do so, we will proceed to highlight the key verses of the psalm and with them, we will comment on the rest. It is a good way to see the cohesion of the text and the strength of its message. Here we go!

Psalm 31:1 and Psalm 31:3

In you, Jehovah, I have trusted;

let me never be confused.

Deliver me in your righteousness!

Psalm 31 begins in a direct and consistent manner, conveying a powerful message intended to reach directly to God and to the listener’s heart. David reaffirms: Lord, I have put my trust in you.

Puts his life in the hands of the Lord in a humble way, and considers it the strength that will guide him on the right path. There is no fortress on earth that can protect anyone more than God.

And how to get God’s protection? With absolute trust and the truest faith that each of us can muster.

Psalm 31:5

“Into your hand I commend my spirit;

You have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth .

.”

The God to whom David entrusts himself, our God, is not a warrior God, but a forgiving God. God, who forgives. David, like us, made many mistakes and turned away from the Lord; but recognizing his mistakes and continuing to trust in Him is the way to continue.

Let yourself be led by the Lord along the paths of this life, trust fully in Him, and you will be happy. He will protect you from all evil and provide you with solutions to everyday problems through the Holy Scriptures.

Psalm 31:7

“I will rejoice and be glad in your mercy,

because you have seen my affliction,

you have known the anguish of my soul.

Sing to the Lord when things are going well, and never be ashamed of your faith. Thanks to Him, you have reached this happiness, it is important not to forget at any moment the help that He brings you.

The Lord is there in good times and in bad. Trust in Him to help you get through the bad times and keep you smiling on happy days. Only with this confidence will you obtain the protection of Our Lord.

Psalm 31:13

“I hear the slander of many;

fear assaults me from all sides,

while they conspire together against me

and they plan to take my life.

Verse 13 is a critical point David’s mood: he finds himself cornered, with very little chance of survival and in front of many people who want to kill him. However, he writes this psalm and reaffirms his attitude, as you will see in the next verses.

Psalm 31:14 and Psalm 31:15

But I trust in you, Jehovah;

I say: “You are my God.

In your hand are my times!”

Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and my persecutors.”

After the great low moment of the previous verse, David again turns to the Lord and repeats before the world that he has confidence in Him. This is the central part of Psalm 31 and you should pay close attention and try to see the importance of these words.

In the most critical moments, we cannot forget the Lord. And not only that, it is important to address him and speak from the heart. Prayer, deeds and Bible study must remain with us even when everything seems to be falling apart.

If you do so, all will be well again and the Lord will watch over you, so that you can be happy in a profound way. It may not be something instantaneous. The Lord rules when things should happen, but sooner or later everything will work out.

Until then, don’t lose heart.

Psalm 31:19

“How great is your goodness,

that you have kept for those who fear you,

that you have shown to those who hope in you,

before the sons of men!

Verse 19 is an exclamation of praise to the Lord. Praise to the Lord, He is a great goodness to all those who trust in Him. The Lord has given us everything we have and should be grateful to Him.

Exclamations like this should be made more frequently to remember Our Lord, and thank Him for His works. Thank Him for His works.

Psalm 31:24

“Be strong, all you who hope in the LORD,

and let your heart take breath.

Finally, the psalm ends with a great piece of advice for all of us who follow God with our hearts and with the desire to create a better world.

David tells us not to lose heart and continue with this precious mission of carrying the Word of God through our lives, making it known to those who have not had the opportunity, and always using it with wisdom.

From the Lord will come all your strength to achieve whatever you want, as long as you work for the good. Fill yourself with confidence in Him and go ahead because you will have a thousand times more strength to overcome any adversity.

Who wrote Psalm 31

As we have already mentioned, before going to the biblical commentary itself, we are going to give you four indications that will help you to place Psalm 31 in its correct framework, so that you will be able to understand what is defined here as trust in God.

Like most psalms, the author of Psalm 31 is the king and prophet David. All his works are gathered in the Book of Psalms of the Old Testament, located between Job and Proverbs, in the group of sapiential books.

This name perfectly indicates the objective of this group of books: to teach the faithful how they should act in order to correspond to God. Thus, they should be taken as lessons to return to when life takes you to it.

In the case of the psalms, they are poetic compositions intended to be sung, very typical of the Old Testament. Old Testament. Almost all the ones in the Bible are by David, although there are some by Moses and Solomon, among others.

Psalm 31 is from David, as its title already indicates. David was king of Israel and also a prophet, coming to unify the two kingdoms under the same faith. However, before it came to this, he was persecuted by the former king Saul.

He probably wrote this psalm during this persecution He probably wrote this psalm during this persecution, trying to seek refuge in the Lord and surrendering himself completely and with all possible confidence.
